HMCTS Probate Service revamp and fee increase

Ahead of the proposed increase in probate fees, HMCTS have announced a revamp of the Probate Service in order to improve the process of applying for probate. You can read more here.

The government’s proposals would see a rise of fees for applying for probate from £155 (for probate professionals) and £215 (for individuals) to a flat fee of £273 for all applicants, regardless of the size of the estate.

It used to take a matter of a week or two to issue grants of probate, whereas now it can take around two months.  We can only hope that the HMCTS can continue to improve the service and get us back to the 1–2-week turnaround.
