What’s the law on pharmacy supervision?

The current consultation introduces three core proposals:

1. Introducing the notion of “authorisation” by pharmacists for pharmacy technicians, allowing them to undertake various tasks related to medicine preparation and dispensing.
2. Empowering pharmacies to designate any team member to dispense prescriptions in the absence of a pharmacist, provided clear Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are established.
3. Enhancing supervision in hospital aseptic facilities, where chief pharmacists would oversee operations while registered pharmacy technicians supervise the preparation and dispensing of medicines.

Additionally, there is a proposal to amend regulation 220 of the HMR 2012 to accommodate current practices like deliveries outside registered pharmacy premises.
